Sunday morning is the norm
The vast majority of U.S. churches hold their main service on Sunday morning. Most start between 9:00 and 11:00 AM. Larger congregations stack services to fit more people.
Typical Sunday schedule
- 8:00–8:30 AM — Early service (smaller, sometimes traditional, often quieter)
- 9:00–9:30 AM — Second service (very popular at larger churches)
- 10:00–10:30 AM — Most common single-service time
- 11:00–11:30 AM — Most common late-morning service
- 5:00–6:00 PM — Evening service (typically more contemporary)
Saturday services
Catholic parishes hold a Saturday vigil Mass (typically 4:00 or 5:00 PM) that fulfills the Sunday obligation. Many evangelical and non-denominational churches now offer Saturday-evening services for those who travel or work weekends.
Mid-week services
Many U.S. churches host a Wednesday night service or Bible study, typically 6:30–8:00 PM. Catholic daily Mass is offered most weekday mornings (often 7:00 or 8:00 AM) at active parishes.
By denomination
- Catholic. Saturday vigil + multiple Sunday Masses (often 7:00, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 5:00), plus daily weekday Mass.
- Orthodox. Sunday Divine Liturgy, typically 9:30 or 10:00 AM, with Saturday-evening Vespers.
- Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal. One or two Sunday-morning services, often 8:30 and 10:30 AM.
- Baptist. Sunday morning service plus often Sunday evening and Wednesday-night Bible study.
- Non-denominational / evangelical / megachurches. Multiple Sunday services, sometimes a Saturday-evening option, and frequent Wednesday-night programs.
- Pentecostal. Sunday morning + Sunday evening + Wednesday-night services are typical.
- Seventh-day Adventist. Saturday morning is the main Sabbath service.
